Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer’s return to the Eden Gardens may be dampened by rain, according to the Kolkata weather forecast on Monday. Iyer joined KKR in 2022 after a seven-year stint with Delhi Capitals. Although he had to miss IPL 2023 due to injury, in 2024 Iyer made a comeback in style and led the team to the title along with mentor Gautam Gambhir. Iyer was released before the 2025 season.
Meanwhile, things are not looking good in Kolkata. After KKR’s Sunday evening training session at the Eden Gardens was called off due to rain and inclement weather, the players were forced to train indoors. All eyes will be skyward on Monday as rain is expected to play its part.
According to Accuweather.com, there is an 85% chance of precipitation in the evening with a chance of breaks midway through the match and around draw time. In fact, it rained in some parts of the city on Sunday and a cold breeze blew throughout the day. Cloud cover will be 94% over Kolkata. The temperature will be around 24 degrees.
What does IMD say about Kolkata weather?

“The state is likely to witness another round of Kalbaishachi storm with possibility of hail and thundershowers from Sunday to Thursday. The intensity and spread of rains is expected to peak on Tuesday and Wednesday,” the IMD said.
What happens when rain hits KKR vs PBKS?
With no reserve days for league matches, the management of both teams will surely be prepared for scenarios going into the highly watched encounter. All matches have an extra 120 minutes if the game does not start on time or is stopped by rain in the middle. At least five overs need to be played for the final result.
For the five-man competition to begin, the match should start at 11:56 PM IST to avoid washouts. In case no game is possible, both KKR and PBKS will share each point. So far no match in IPL 2026 has been affected by rain.
Where are KKR & PBKS in IPL 2026 Points Table?
Currently, KKR are at the ninth position IPL 2026 Points Table with two losses against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians. A win against Punjab Kings would help the Ajinkya Rahane-led team open their account in the ongoing season. On the other hand, Punjab Kings are coming into this game on the back of two wins over Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings.
The rain could be a missed opportunity for KKR to return to form in front of the home fans.
