Cricket Australia has hit back at Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane, who claimed that only the Australian board knew why all-rounder Cameron Green did not play a single over in the team’s match against Mumbai Indians.
KKR were beaten by Hardik Pandya’s side on Sunday, March 29 as MI chased down 221 with six wickets and five balls to spare. Openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton added 148 runs for the first wicket to virtually take the game away from KKR in the first 10 overs.

Looking for answers, KKR could not turn to their leading all-rounder Cameron Green, who was bought for a record price of Rs 25.20 crore. After the loss, Rahane cut a frustrated figure. When asked why Green did not bowl an over, the KKR skipper told host Ian Bishop that the question should be directed at Cricket Australia and hinted that the board had restricted the bowlers in the IPL.
WHY CAMERON GREEN NEBOWL IN MI vs KKR?
However, Cricket Australia responded on Monday, saying that KKR had been informed well in advance that Green would not be bowling for the first 10-12 days of the IPL due to a back injury.
“Cameron has a lower back injury which is being treated but requires him to be sidelined from bowling for a short period of time,” a CA spokesman said.
“Cameron is currently rebuilding his bowling in India with a view to returning in around 10-12 days.
“KKR has been communicated with this information and is fully aware of it.”
The absence of Green as a bowling option leaves KKR in a difficult position. The team is already dealing with injuries to Harshit Rana and Matheesha Pathirana and has also been forced to part ways with one of their key buys, Mustafizur Rahman.
If KKR follows Cricket Australia’s timeline, Green is likely to fail in at least the first four matches of the IPL.
Currently, if selected, Green will feature purely as a specialty batsman against SunRisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants till around April 9.
