Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minister of Minorities, Kiren Rijija, 2 April moved the draft law of WAQF (amendment), as suggested by the Common Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for assessment in Lok Sabha.
“Government and JPC have received several memorandums and proposals from the parties and experts on the WAQF account,” Kiren Rijiju in Lok Sabha said.
In the middle of the loud opposition in Parliament, he added that the government “will not interfere with any religious institution” and the opposition started and said, “You tried to mention people on questions that are not part of the WAQF law”.
On the proposal of the WAQF Act (amendment), 2025
Minister Kiren Rijiju first presented the bill in August last year, after which JPC was transferred for further inspection. 27. February JPC cleaned 14 amendments moved by members of the BJP or its allies in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The new draft bill of WAQF, which was presented today in parliament, allegedly includes all 25 recommendations made by JPC into what will now be known as WAQF (Appendix), 2025.
