Bengalur of billionaire Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw was released on Tuesday on the city meter and decided to travel through the Namma Metro Purple line to escape the notorious traffic overload of Bengalur.
The founder of Biocon Limited, who shared her experience on the X -Social Media platform, expressed surprises in the Metro’s journey and appreciated Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation for providing a “great ride”.
Shaw was accompanied by her girlfriend Jennifer Erich, whom she called “Iron Lady in Exxon Mobile”. Erich, according to her profile LinkedIn, holds the position of the geoscience manager in the Exxon Mobile Bengalur Technology Center.
“He took the purple line from Whitefield to Vishana with my friend Namma Metro Jennifer Erich, Iron Lady Exxon Mobile. Such a quick way to avoid traffic. Great ride. Thanks BMRCL,” wrote Mazumdar-Shaw on X.
Jennifer Erich responded to the post by saying she was happy, that she introduced Namma Metro Shaw.
“So happy to be your mentor of the subway !! Thanks a lot for joining me in my office today,” she replied.
The online audience expressed a strong recognition for a modest and relative gesture of Kirana Mazumdara-Shaw. “Great to see how famous personalities and sharing do – very important that more people take public transport,” one person wrote. “When rich, influential and elite accept public transport, catalyze systemic investments and inspire the emulation between the masses, dismantles aspirations on the car and announces the shift towards sustainable urban mobility,” another.
What is Namma Metro?
The Namma Metro, commonly referred to as the Bengaluru Metro, is a fast transit network serving Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka. The system is controlled by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), a partnership between the Indian government and the Karnataka government.
Currently, the Namma Metro operates two lines: a purple line and a green line.
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is not the first billionaire to decide on public transport. In 2023, the real estate tycoon Niranjan Hiranandani took the local train in Mumbai to “save time and beat traffic”.
