Andhra Pradesh saw a surge in paddy procurement during the current kharif season (2025-2026), with 3,49,061 tonnes procured on 20 November 2025, the highest in the last three seasons.
Officials attribute the “remarkable increase” in paddy procurement to improved administrative efficiency, timely payments to SMEs and growing confidence of farmers in the state’s procurement system.
According to information, 49,473 farmers have already benefited this season with payments of ₹827.84 crore cleared.
In comparison, during the corresponding 2023-24 kharif period, public procurement was 2,40,781 MT covering 32,207 farmers with total payments of ₹,554.04 crore. The 2022-23 Kharif season recorded 90,541 MT benefiting only 12,717 farmers.
District data shows that East Godavari, Konaseema and Krishna are leading the purchases, with several districts reflecting sharp increases in both the quantity procured and the value paid to farmers.
Konaseema district reported over 56,885 MT while East Godavari reached 95,885 MT. The Eluru region has shown a significant jump across seasons, with purchases increasing from 39,105 MT (2023-24) to over 54,564 MT this year. Krishna district reported over 50,821 MT.
When contacted, Civil Supplies Corporation Chairman and Managing Director S. Dilli Rao attributed the steady growth to expanded shopping malls, digital monitoring systems, improved transport logistics and speedy redressal of farmers’ grievances.
The estimated acquisition budget was about ₹13,450 crore. Of this, ₹12,125 crore will be paid to farmers and the rest will be spent on bags, labor and transport, he said.
For 2023-24 kharif, the state estimated 35.30 lakh MT of paddy production. However, procurement remained modest at 90,540 MT benefiting 12,717 farmers who were paid a total of ₹91.72 crore.
In Kharif 2024-2025, procurement activities gained considerable momentum. Against an estimated 36.14 lakh MT of production, the government bought 2,40,781 MT, almost three times the previous season’s amount.
