Home Minister Priyank Kharge on Saturday said the state government is determined to convert jails from mere places of incarceration into centers for rehabilitation and personality development. He said inmates were provided with education, skills development, vocational training and mental health support to help them become self-sufficient after release.
Ahead of the event, the Home Minister inspected various facilities at Parappana Agrahara Jail and interacted with inmates undergoing computer training and reviewed the ongoing skill development programmes. He also looked into the handiwork of prisoners and said the government should explore better market opportunities for such products to help ex-prisoners earn a sustainable livelihood after their release. Mr. Kharge also visited a learning center for children of prisoners.
