Kharge remembers former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for major economic reforms on his birth anniversary

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday (September 26, 2026) remembered former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his birth anniversary as a visionary statesman whose sweeping economic reforms transformed India.

In a post on X, he said that humility, integrity and wisdom defined Singh’s personality and that he led with quiet dignity and compassion.

“We remember with deep respect former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh’s extraordinary contribution to India’s nation-building. A visionary statesman, his landmark economic reforms changed India’s growth trajectory, created new opportunities and helped lift millions of people out of poverty,” Mr. Kharge said in his post.

“His humility, integrity and wisdom defined his public life. He led with quiet dignity and compassion, putting inclusive growth and the welfare of the most vulnerable at the center of governance. The rights-based framework of his governance remains an enduring testament to this vision,” the Congress leader said.

On Singh’s birth anniversary, he said, “We pay heartfelt tribute to a statesman whose legacy of honest public service, inclusive development and transformative reforms will continue to inspire generations.”

Manmohan Singh was born on 26 September 1932 in Gah, now in Pakistan.

The two-time prime minister died on December 26, 2024.
