The Kerala Government Medical Association has expressed its strong protest against the “unfair” suspension of an obstetrician-gynecologist at the Nedumangad District Hospital, even as the expert committees that probed the death of the newborn had clearly stated that there was no medical negligence on the part of the doctor.
It also protested against the delay on the part of the government in arresting those persons who physically assaulted the superintendent over the death of the newborn.
In a meeting held recently, the district general body of KGMOA, which assessed the human resource situation in the district, pointed out that continued delivery services at delivery points where basic infrastructure and human resources are inadequate pose a huge threat to the life and health of mothers and newborns.
The district unit of KGMOA said that in public sector institutions where there are only two gynaecologists, on-call delivery services and related out-of-hours surgeries will not be conducted henceforth.
She said she was launching a strong protest demanding justice for the suspended doctor and immediate arrest of those who assaulted the superintendent.
From Tuesday, KGMOA will stop special OP services and elective operations, he said. If the government does not take a responsible approach to the issues highlighted by the doctors, KGMOA will be forced to intensify its agitation, KGMOA said in a statement here
