
Keralit from Pathiyoor, near Kayamkulum, was reportedly missing in Alappuzha after the cargo ship sank in the Red Sea after the attack of Yemen’s rebels 7 July. The missing person was identified as Anilkumar Ravendran, 52, security officer.
According to family members, Mr. Anilkucar last contacted them by telephone 6 July. Since the attack, the family has not received any communication and desperately seeks information about his stay.
The vessel, the MV eternity C, the Liberian cargo ship, was on its way to the Israeli port of Eilat when it got under the attack. At that time the ship had a crew 25 aboard, including nationals from India, Philippines, Russia and Greece. Four crew members were killed in the attack. Ten others were rescued, including another keria identified as Augustine of Parasala, Thiruvananthapuram. Eleven crew members, including Mr. Anilkucar, are still missing.
On Thursday he visited Sheeja, the wife of Mr. Anilkumar, Augustine. “We do not know what happened to my husband after the attack. He and others allegedly jumped into the sea and floated for several hours. Mr. Augustine and several others were saved by the team, but my husband and 10 others remain missing.
Mr. Anilkar joined the shipping company after leaving the Indian army, where it served for 19 years. The family was looking for the help of trade unions and state governments to find it.
