Keral’s government announced a 52 -day ban on trawling across the state’s coastal waters, effective from midnight 9 June to midnight on July 31. The annual ban on trawling is part of the effort to protect marine resources and fishing.
According to the decision, the decision was completed during the Cabinet meeting 5 June. During this period, mechanized fishing will be prohibited, although traditional fishing will be allowed using internal ships. The internal ships have engines located inside the hull of the ship.
Instructions to be observed during a ban
The authorities ordered the coastal police and the collectors of the districts to ensure that all extraterrestrial fishing boats release the Keral coast before the ban.
The fishing department stressed that all internal ships must be equipped with basic safety equipment.
During the ban, trawlers must remain at least 12 naval miles at sea. Infisters will face fines from the fishing department and other relevant agencies. In order to balance the financial impact on trawlers, the state government has promised to provide assistance, including allocation and subsidies, as stated.
Why is this ban saved?
The aim of the prohibition is to protect the population of fish and prevent excessive fishing during their key reproduction period. Specifically, it focuses on the lower trawling, a method known to damage the bottom of the ocean and captures young fish.
52 -day restrictions will help save sea ecosystems and fish supplies. This is in line with the breeding cycles of several economically important fish species.
According to the Hind report, 6,233 registered vessels are in the Kozhikode district in Kerala. There are 552 mechanized fishing ships, 173 are ships with internal engines, 5,098 are ships with trailers and 410 are ships without engines. There are also 119 ships from other districts in Kozhikode.
What is trawling?
Trawling is a fishing method that includes a large network towing, called a towing hall, through the water to catch fish and other sea animals.
The network is usually weighed with a certain object to stay on the seabed or at a particular depth and is pulled by a container or boat.
