The state government will conduct special recruitment if marginalized sections are found not to have adequate representation in government services, Chief Minister VD Satheesan said.

The government will review the recruitment conducted through the Kerala Public Service Commission every three years. Special recruitment will be done if the backward sections are not adequately represented in the service, he said while inaugurating social reformer Ayyankali’s 163rd birth anniversary celebrations organized by Cherama Sambava Development Society (CSDS) here on Friday.

In the revised budget for 2026-27 presented in June, Mr Satheesan announced that “special recruitment drives will be undertaken to ensure adequate representation of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in government services”.

The plight of Dalit Christians

Mr. Satheesan said the UDF government would try to find a solution to the backwardness faced by Dalit Christians in Kerala. They neither have the privileges of being Christians nor the benefits of reservation like Dalits, he said.

The Chief Minister also promised the CSDS that the college approved for the community organization when Oommen Chandy was the Chief Minister would soon become a reality.

At Friday’s meeting, there were demands for adequate representation of members of the Dalit community in top posts in Devaswom boards, governing boards and corporations and universities.

It is Ayyankali

The battles fought by Ayyankali for equal rights will be remembered as long as Keralam exists, said Mr. Satheesan. “Villuvandi Samaram” and “Kallumala Samaram” were important episodes of social reform which underlined the importance of equality among all people, he said. Kodikkunnil Suresh, MP; Chandy Oommen, MLA; and CSDS General Secretary Sunil Thankappan were among the speakers.
