Kerala Women’s Commission Chairperson P. Sathidevi expressed her displeasure over the recent court verdicts in the custodial rape and gang rape cases.
She told the media here on Thursday (Dec 18) that although provision of maximum punishment in such cases was the norm, court verdicts in some recent cases went against it. Ms. Sathidevi pointed out that it is cause for concern that the accused in gang-rape cases receive only minimal punishment.
Meanwhile, an official report quoting her said that the Commission is not satisfied with the court’s verdict in the actor assault case. The cyber police should take action against those who bully survivors on social media under sections of the IT Act, Ms. Sathidevi said.
