Kerala, which has launched the country’s first government-run app-based taxi service, is all set to experiment with a new integrated multi-modal online transport app that enables passengers to travel seamlessly by water metro, metro, bus, car and taxis in the state.
In partnership with Moving Tech Innovations Ltd, a sister company of payment firm Juspay, the new ride-hailing platform to be launched by the state government will bring metro, water metro, buses, taxi and auto services on a single platform, providing passengers with a cost-effective seamless public transport system at once.
Rajiv Ravindran, Chief Growth Officer at Namma Yatri, an open mobility app developed by Moving Tech Innovations in Karnataka, which provides technology support in Kerala, told The Hindu that this is a major step towards redefining the riding experience in the country.
Based on ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce), this platform allows passengers to use all kinds of public transport systems connected to the app for a single ride and call to destination. For example, a passenger planning to go to Nedumbassery Airport from Thripunithura in Kochi could use an auto/taxi/bus to reach the nearest metro terminal. After alighting from Aluva metro station, the passenger could reach the airport based on their preference of available mode of transport (car/taxi/bus) from Aluva metro station with the same ride PIN.
The highlight of the integrated platform is that all these app-connected multimodal transport systems can be used within a single ride. Further, talks are underway to include Indian Railways in the app service, Mr. Ravindran said. They also plan to provide non-emergency ambulance services through the app. All these services would be available on the Kerala Savari platform, an online taxi service owned by the state government. Though Kerala Savari could not make headway in the first phase, the model replicated by states like Karnataka (Namma Yatri), Tamil Nadu (Chennai One), Kolkata (Yatri Sathi) and Odisha (Odisha Yatri) has been successful in these regions. Bharat Taxi, a partnership model taxi service to be launched by the Center in Delhi from November, has also been inspired by ‘Kerala Savari’.
The Department of Labor, Government of Kerala entered into a tripartite agreement with Moving Tech Innovations, replacing the previous service provider. The new reloaded integrated app will be launched on December 16 in Kochi in the first phase. As a prelude to this, the Labor Department will flag off the revamped Kerala Savari auto/taxi service in Thiruvananthapuram on November 4 with attractive features.
