Kerala is steadily moving towards becoming an energy self-sufficient and carbon neutral green state, said Electricity Minister K. Krishnankutty while inaugurating the newly constructed 33kV substation at Choolissery on Sunday.
The minister said the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) continues to operate profitably, marking a significant phase where the state will not face any power cut or load shedding. He highlighted the various initiatives implemented in the hydro and solar power sectors and said that the newly introduced battery energy storage system is working effectively in addressing night-time power shortages.
“The government aims to bring electricity to all tribal settlements in the state within this year,” the minister added.
The event was presided over by MLA Xavier Chittilappilly, MP K. Radhakrishnan was the chief guest.
Constructed at a cost of ₹ 4.53 crore on 120 cents of land owned by KSEB at Choolissery, the substation will provide a long-term solution to power shortage in Choolissery, Mundur, Avanur, Medical College, Kuttur, Kottekkad and Kunnathpeedika areas.
Currently, these areas are supplied from the Kottekkad feeder at the 110 kV Viyyur sub-station, which often faces overload and voltage problems, especially in summer. The new substation, approved after Mr. Chittilappilly’s intervention, will provide uninterrupted, high-quality power to more than 50,000 domestic, commercial and industrial consumers across Puzhakkal block and Avanur, Kolazhy and Kaiparambu panchayats.
The facility has been designed using modern technologies to efficiently meet future energy needs, the minister said.
