
Kerala continues to be one of the safest places for independent journalism at a time when many other states are trying to limit the freedom of the media by its reactive approach to criticism, said PA Mohamed Riyas, Minister of Public Work.
He spoke after presented the The TheTrath of Memorial Journalism Excellence Award on Monday Monday established Calicut Press Club for the best editor of VM Ibrahim.
Mr. Riyas said that the country was currently witnessing a strange situation where it was found that the National Investigation Agency was a weapon in the hands of several to suppress freedom and defense of the media. He pointed out that Kerala appeared as a model with a proactive approach to constructive media criticism.
Mr. Riyas also distributed the newly designed identification cards prepared by a press club for journalists. The president of the EP press club Mohammed and the secretary of the PK Sajith were present.
