Kerala Revised Budget: MLAs welcome budget allocations for Kannur, Irikkur constituencies
The Kerala government’s revised budget for 2026-27, presented by Chief Minister VD Satheesan on Friday (June 19, 2026), has earmarked substantial funds for infrastructure and development projects in Kannur and Irikkur assembly constituencies, according to MLAs TO Mohanan and Sajeev Joseph.
Among the major allocations for the Kannur constituency is ₹20 crore for the completion of the Kannur Corporation headquarters building. The additional funding is expected to speed up the construction of the new civic complex, which is already halfway to completion.
Road and transport infrastructure received considerable attention, with ₹60 crore allocated for the development of a four-lane road from Melechovva to Kanhirode. Another ₹15 crore has been sanctioned for the widening and upgrading of the Anayidukku road, while ₹15 crore has been earmarked for the renovation of the Thazhe Chovva-Chakkarakkal airport road.
Land acquisition for Nadal and Thazhe Chovva flyovers received ₹2 million, while another ₹2 million was allocated for land acquisition for Anayidukku railway flyover. Other allocations include ₹5 crore for widening and upgrading of Valiyannur-Mudneri Motta road, ₹3 crore for completion of tarring work on Mundayad-Mathukoth road, ₹2 crore for each Echeri Bank-Pallippoyil road and Kudukkimotta-Puravoor border ₹, Road Beautification project up1. crore on the Hajimotta-Macheri road.
The budget also provided ₹5 million for the construction of a new office building for the Munderi grama panchayat, ₹2 million for the renovation of Echeri Nallanchikulam, ₹1.5 billion for a public crematorium in Munderi and ₹2 million for the Happiness Bird Park near Munderi. ₹1 trillion has been allocated for infrastructure development at the Mappila Bay port.
In Irikkur constituency, the budget approved ₹5 crore for the first phase of the much-awaited Irikkur Mini Civil Station, which aims to improve access to government services in the high-reach region. A fire and rescue service station has also been approved for Sreekandapuram, fulfilling a long-standing local demand.
The budget further allocates ₹9.5 crore for the construction of a new bridge at Vattiyamthode to improve connectivity and traffic in the area. Another ₹ 1 million has been earmarked for the Eruvatty-Vimalassery-Therthally road project.
The MLAs said the allocations reflect the government’s focus on strengthening infrastructure, public services and connectivity while addressing several long-pending development demands in the two constituencies.
