Kerala rains: IMD issues orange alert in 2 districts; predicts thunderstorms, strong winds across the state

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday (June 10, 2026) issued an orange alert in two districts of Kerala for the morning and predicted thunderstorms with light rainfall and strong winds in various parts of the state where the southwest monsoon remains active.

The IMD has issued an orange alert in Alappuzha and Ernakulam districts for three hours starting at 10 am.

An orange warning means very heavy rain of 11 cm to 20 cm.

Besides, it has forecast thunderstorms with light rainfall and surface wind speed between 40-50 kilometers per hour in these two districts as well as Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts in the state.

On Tuesday, heavy rains accompanied by strong winds lashed several parts of Kerala, especially in northern districts, leading to widespread waterlogging and prompting precautionary evacuation measures in some areas.
