When the sun soaked the sun across the coast of Alappuzha on Wednesday evening, the air grew heavily – not only with the weight of the monsoon clouds, but with the silent grief of thousands who said goodbye to the leader who became the conscience of Keral’s left politics.
Vs Achuthanandan, an unsuccessful comrade, was cremated with a full state honor at the Punna-Vayalar Memorial in Valiya Chudukkad at 21:15, on the soil that formed his life and fight.
It is also a place of final rest of the legendary communist leaders, including P. Krishn Pillai, TV Thomas, PK Chandrananandan and KR Gouri.
Achuthanandan’s Cortege entered the Oachira district, where the body was accepted by Ministers Saji Cherian and P. Praad. His deadly remains reached their home in the pavuro around 12:15, more than 22 hours after the start of the funeral procession in Thiruvananthapuram.

The massive participation along the route, with people lining the roads from Thiruvananthapurama in Alappuzha, reflected both deep admiration for his political heritage, as well as a sincere farewell to the leader they considered one of their own.
After entering the district, Cortege passed through Kareelakulangara, Nagiarculangara, Haripad, ThottAppaly and TD Medical College Junction before reaching his home. In his house, the sea of people gathered, some of them waited from Tuesday evening to see him.

From there, his body was transported to the Indian Communist Party (Marxist) Office of the ALAPPUZHA District Committee and then to recreational ground before moving to Valiya Chudukkad.
The funeral, originally scheduled for 15:00, was delayed due to the stunning crowd. Despite the heavy downpour in the evening, thousands continued to pour on recreational land and in the place of cremation.

Veliya Chudukkad was present by the wife of Achuthanandan, Vasumathi, along with other family members to offer him a final farewell. His son, Va Aruunkumar, illuminated Achuthanandan’s Funeral Pyre.
