
Kodikunil Suresh, a deputy, wrote the Minister of Trade Union and the good life conditions of farmers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and urged the sanction of a special central package for Kuttanad. MEP Mavelikar invited Mr. Chouhan to visit Kuttanad, one of the most unique and beautiful agroerological areas in India.
Kuttanad, known as the “Kerala Rice Bowl”, is internationally recognized as a globally important system of agricultural heritage (GIAHS) organizations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). It is the only region in India, where extensive agriculture is practiced, supporting unpeeled cultivation, inland fishing, traditional duck breeding and eco-tourism.
“Despite its ecological, cultural and economic importance, Kuttanad faces serious challenges, including frequent floods, the intrusion of salinity and impact on climate change that forced emergency migration of agricultural communities and threatened traditional livelihoods. 202;
In his letter, he emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive package to ensure sustainable development, protection of living, resistance to disaster, supporting livelihood based on agriculture and promoting ecotourism. Mr. Sutesh called on Mr. Chouhan to visit Kuttanad to witness his unique agricultural and cultural heritage, he said that a detailed program could be organized in coordination with the local parties and the State Government for assessment and discussion.
“The protective and development of Kuttanad will protect the living for lakh people and serve as a tribute to Mrs. Swaminathan’s vision of sustainable and inclusive agriculture,” he added.
