Kerala HC orders railways to shift electrical installations near Pachalam bridge

The Kerala High Court has directed the railways to take appropriate steps within two weeks to shift electrical installations projecting into the road near the Pachalam flyover to the adjacent railway land to allow smooth operations.

The electrical infrastructure currently hinders the smoothness of vehicular movement in the area. The Kochi Corporation said it has sanctioned ₹ 1.60 lakh and handed over a check for the amount to the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). KSEB said it had received the check and that an application was made to the Railway authorities on September 11 to shift the electrical infrastructure to the adjacent railway land.

Pursuant to the earlier direction, the additional secretary of the corporation and the executive engineer of KSEB were present before the Supreme Court on Wednesday (September 16, 2026) when the direction was issued. A Public Interest Litigation in this regard was filed by Sujith C. Sukumaran of Pachalam on the basis of which the court issued the direction.

The matter was posted for hearing on September 30.
