Kerala HC extends enforcement action against former DGP

The Kerala High Court has extended an order restraining enforcement action against former Director General of Police and BJP councilor R. Sreelekha over her alleged statements about revealing the identities of survivors in three cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012.

Ms. Sreelekha has allegedly leaked details through her YouTube channel that could identify the minor rape survivors of the Kiliroor and Kaviyoor sexual assault cases. She was booked by the Thiruvananthapuram police station under the provisions of the POCSO Act, which prohibits the printing or publication of any material that reveals the identity of victims of sex crimes.

Justice Jobin Sebastian was considering Ms. Sreelekha’s plea to quash the FIR registered against her, arguing that the Magistrate’s Court did not inform her or allow her to be heard before taking up the case. She also claimed that she did not mention the minor survivors. The court decided that the coercive measure will be suspended until the cause of action is resolved.
