The Kerala High Court on Friday allowed the Catholic Congress to prevail in a petition filed by the makers of Malayalam film Haal, which raised concerns with the Central Board of Film Certification’s (CBFC) review committee demanding the removal of half a dozen scenes from the film. According to the makers, the scenes are crucial to the theme of the film.
In its affidavit, the Catholic Congress said the film portrays Bishop Thamarassery as an advocate of “love jihad”. This is defamatory, hurts the religious sentiments of the Christian community and could disturb the peace in society, it said. On a motion by the organization’s counsel that the judge watch the film to reach a conclusion, the court said he could watch the film and remanded the case for hearing on Tuesday.
