The ghost of possible leakage of hazardous chemicals appeared in Kerala with a large, with at least nine containers from the overturned Liberian cost vessel, MSC Elsa 3, washing on the beaches in the districts of Kollam and Alappuzha soon on Monday.
A high -level meeting, chaired by the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, issued a high warning along the coast of the state. He also identified environmental concerns about oil leakage from a sunken vessel. The Indian Coast Guard aircraft (ICG) flew several battle flights on the ship and sprayed dispersions to speed up the biodegradation of oil views.
The government has classified the accident as the Tier 2 naval event. It is in close coordination with the CEO of ICG, which leads the National Plan of emergency oil leakage to alleviate the hazard of the environment.
Calcium carbide
The Office of the Main Minister (CMO) stated that 643 translation containers were provided on the main deck. The cost contained 13 containers carrying calcium carbide. Dangerous chemicals cause the exothermic reaction and create highly flammable calcium and acetylene gas when reacting with water.
The Indian National Ocean Information Center (Incois) reported the government that the beaches of Alappuzha, Kollam, Ernakula and Thiruvananthapuram will probably be more containers. The government called on the public to report to the observation of containers by dialing the emergency number 112.
The government said local people found four containers located near the port of Shakthikulangara and Chavar in the Kollam district. They also stated that containers run on the shore on the beaches of Cheriaazheechal and Thrikunipuzha in the district of Alappuzha. The government advised extreme caution and ended the coastal locations because some containers may contain dangerous and flammable materials.
Sechar Kuriakos, a member of the State Secretary of the Office for the Administration of Keral (KSDMA), recommended the public to maintain a minimum distance of 200 m from the beach containers.
Prohibition of fishing near place
The government said there were more containers in the sea, which represents a serious threat to passing boats and smaller vessels, including fishing ships. The government has banned fishing activities within a 20-Neuutic mile from the location of the ship.
ICG and maritime authorities have issued the sailors notifications and advised them to proceed with caution when navigating the shipping ships.
Rescue containers
The Shipping company has closed a private company that helps the authorities in losing the floating containers and saved those who have been deposited in a submerged expense.
The container ship, which set a course for Kochi from Vishinjam, founded after meeting with a harsh weather 38 km southwest of its port soon on Sunday.
The endangered combination of heavy seas, possible fuselage leakage, mechanical failure and perhaps unbalanced cargo reportedly caused the ship to report heavily prior to the reversing and sinking.
The coast patrol saved the ship’s crew and included up to 21 individuals from different nationalities, including Russia and the Philippines.
