Kerala Industries and IT Minister PK Kunhalikutty said on Tuesday that the state government is working to create stronger linkages between higher education institutions and industry. Efforts are aimed at supporting new micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and improving youth employability.
Responding to questions raised during question hour in the Legislative Assembly, the minister said the government is actively considering the idea of developing incubation centers in universities to promote entrepreneurship and facilitate the start-up of technology-based SMEs.
He pointed out that preliminary discussions have already taken place with Minister of Higher Education Roji M. John to formulate policies aimed at strengthening academic-industry collaboration. He said the state could not afford to delay such reforms, stressing that graduates must become employable and acquire field-relevant skills before entering the labor market.
The initiative also forms an important part of the government’s strategy to reduce student migration, create employment opportunities in Kerala and build capacity among the youth, the minister added.
