Kerala is working on leaving the deadline for December 2025 for a change in a completely antibiotic-literate condition.
By December this year, the state intends to carry out activities to increase antibiotics in all hospitals and local self -governing institutions (LSGIS) and ensure that no antibiotics are issued anywhere in the state without a proper regulation, Minister of Health Veen George said on Tuesday.
It issued a brochure of activities to raise awareness of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and the correct use of antibiotics performed by the medical department in all districts within the World Week AMR, which was observed from 18 to 24 November 2024.
About 395 LSGIS and 734 hospitals in the state were jointly made by 2,852 AMR awareness programs. About 404 private hospitals, 2,238 educational institutions and 1 530 pharmacies joined the AMR initiative
The aim of the antibiotic campaign of literate kerala will be to create general public awareness of the importance of maintaining drinking water and food without antibiotic residues and how antibiotics should be consumed only according to the doctor’s instructions.
The campaign will also focus on the public to be informed about the importance of unused or data -elaborated antibiotics safely, ensuring that they do not affect watercourses or are not plundered into the soil. To help this, the initiative initiated by the state department of drugs – Nroud – to ensure that the safe disposal of drugs is reduced throughout the state.
Despite the efforts to make awareness, the awareness of AMR in the state remains about 40%, several studies have been shown. The participation of the institutions of the private health sector in the AMR prevention activities also did not come to the required level.
The ambitious goal of 100% of the literacy of antibiotics can only be achieved if the state pays renewed attention to the involvement of private healthcare. This year, all professional medical associations as the Indian Academy of Pediatrics, the Association of Doctors and the Indian Association have undertaken more to focus on improving the involvement of the private healthcare sector
AMR is a quiet pandemic, and therefore increases the awareness and understanding of AMR and the support of proven procedures between all health parties involved is important to reduce and spread drug -resistant infections.
The general public should therefore understand that the rational and prudent use of antibiotics is important to prevent antibiotic-resistant pathogens. Antibiotics should only be purchased and consumed when the doctor prescribes them and care should be paid to the patient to complete the course of medicine, as the doctor has taken, says the medical department.
