Reflecting its recent success in the local polls, the United Democratic Front (UDF) achieved a clean sweep in all five constituencies in council elections in Idukki district. In all the seats, the UDF candidates secured victory with wide margins.
The Congress party returned to power in Devikulam and Farting constituencies after a 20-year hiatus. In Udumbanchola, a UDF member was elected after a gap of 25 years. After years without an MLA in the district, the Congress party now has four seats: Idukki, Peerumade, Devikulam and Udumbanchola.
