The State Cabinet on Wednesday cleaned the framework for protection and management of the Keren River Basin.
The Top Committee, the Office for the Protection and Management of the Kerala River Basin, will be chaired by the main minister.
The panel will have ministers for water resources, industry, revenue, strength, forest, finance, local government, agriculture, environment, fishing, public work and tourism, Vice -President of the State Council for Planning and Main Secretary. Another main secretary (Water Resources) will be Conventner.
The main secretary and other main secretary (water resources) at the head of the Steering Committee and the Technical Committee.
The Office is focused on the overall improvement of water resources management in the state. The new framework is expected to announce the efficiency of resource management, strict monitoring and evaluation and multidimensional administrative mechanism.
Panels at the basin level
In addition to the APEX Committee, there will also be panels at the basin level. In the case of the river basin, covering several districts, the collector of the district commanding the largest area under the river basin of the river will be chaired by the Committee at the River Basin level. Collectors of other districts will be co -chairmen in this panel.
14. The five -year plan of the state emphasized the importance of an effective institutional mechanism for the administration of the river basin. The results of such a mechanism include the basin plans for all river systems, optimal use of water resources, water quality monitoring, measures related to climate change and sustainable development of water resources.
The effectiveness in the river basin management assumed greater importance for Keraral after the floods 2018 and 2019.
