Kerala won national level energy efficiency awards by ranking first in the Group 3 division of the State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI).
President Droupadi Murmu presented the award to Additional Principal Secretary (Power) Puneet Kumar and Director Energy Management Center – Kerala (EMC) R. Harikumar in New Delhi on Sunday (December 14, 2025).
Kerala was selected for the award considering the steps taken by the state to promote energy efficiency in the agricultural sector, power distribution, transport, industry, large buildings and domestic sector, EMC said. Programs and activities implemented by the government and programs implemented with the financial assistance of non-governmental institutions were taken into account when selecting the state for awarding the award.
The progress made by Kerala as a state in notifying the Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code and incorporating them into the Kerala Building Code has also proved to be crucial. EMC said the award was in recognition of the “comprehensive approach” taken by the Kerala government towards energy conservation and sustainable development.
