Sobha Surendran, General Secretary of BJP Kerala State and NDA candidate in Palakkad, dismissed opposition leader VD Satheesan’s claim that the CPI(M) had struck a deal with the BJP by fielding a weak candidate in Palakkad.
Mr Satheesan claimed that NMR Razak’s candidature as an independent party supported by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Palakkad was part of a larger understanding between the BJP and the CPI(M), claiming that the BJP would in return support the CPI(M) in 10 constituencies.
Ms Surendran said here on Saturday that Mr Satheesan’s remarks were driven by “fear on his part of imminent defeat”.
The responsibility for fielding a weak candidate lies with the respective front, she said, adding that Mr. Satheesan’s allegation was tantamount to “seeking anticipatory bail” against a likely loss.
