Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Thrissur on Sunday (March 29) as part of the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) election campaign with a 900m long roadshow planned along the Swaraj Roundabout.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in the city after election rallies in Palakkad. He will land at the C. Achutha Menon Government College heliport in Kuttanellur around 4 pm and will be received by Union Minister Suresh Gopi and other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders. From there he will take the road to the city center.
The roadshow will start near the District Hospital at Swaraj Round and continue up to Bini Heritage Home, covering approximately 900 meters. Party sources said that there will be no public meeting in Thrissur with the sole focus of the roadshow.
BJP leaders are expecting a massive turnout, with more than 50,000 people likely to attend. Traditional art forms like Kummatti Kali, Pulikali, Margamkali and Kathakali are arranged to welcome the Prime Minister.
Meet the candidates
All the NDA candidates from the district are also expected to meet Mr. Modi during the visit. The BJP hopes the high-profile campaign will boost its prospects in Thrissur, one of the constituencies where it is seeking a breakthrough and building on its success in the Lok Sabha.
Meanwhile, strict traffic restrictions have been imposed in the city in view of the visit. Parking will not be allowed on Swaraj Round and surrounding roads from Saturday morning to Sunday evening. Traffic curbs will be in place from 2pm to 6.30pm on Sunday.
Authorities urged the public to avoid unnecessary trips into the city and strictly follow police instructions. Multi-axle vehicles, including trailers, will not be allowed to enter the city limits an hour before the prime minister’s arrival and will be allowed only after his departure, police said.
