We will learn from the loss, says CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam
Pinarayi Vijayan’s style of functioning as Chief Minister is said to have come under attack at the Communist Party of India (CPI) leadership level meetings that began in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday in the wake of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) debacle in the assembly polls.
A meeting of the CPI state secretariat and the state executive took place on Wednesday.
Ahead of the meetings, party state secretary Binoy Viswam told reporters that the CPI plans to move forward by learning from the defeat and fixing what needs to be fixed. “Defeat has no other name than defeat,” he said.
“However, the Communist Party and the LDF do not leave the field after defeat. We will learn from the defeat,” he said. He called Wednesday’s meetings the first step in assessing what went wrong.
In the next phase, CPI will meet in all districts to assess performance. Subsequently, the CPI state council will meet and discuss the findings, Mr. Viswam said, adding that his party intends to seriously examine where there were flaws and shortcomings.
“Changes will be made where needed. What needs to be fixed will be fixed. Communist Party and LDF can only go forward. We will be with the people,” he said.
In the LDF’s 35 seats, the CPI bagged eight, which included three of its ministers in the outgoing Left Democratic Front (LDF) government — P. Prasad, K. Rajan and GR Anil. The CPI won in Kanhangad (Govindan Pallikappil), Pattambi (Muhammed Muhassin), Ollur (K. Rajan), Nattika (Geetha Gopi), Kaipamangalam (KK Valsalaraj), Cherthala (P. Prasad), Punalur (C. Ajayaprasad) and Nedumangad (GR Anil).
