Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate in the Palakkad Assembly constituency, Sobha Surendran, saw her carefully built-up public image take a severe beating in the final hours before the polls after allegations of cash-for-votes surfaced against her campaign.
For the BJP, the campaign, which started on a high note and aggressively reached out to voters even before the rival fronts had finalized their candidates, ended on the defensive against serious allegations of vote money raised by the United Democratic Front (UDF). If proven, the allegations could end Ms. Surendran’s Assembly ambitions.
