As many as 120 candidates filed nominations in the district as the deadline for submitting documents for the council elections scheduled for April 9 expired on Monday (March 23, 2026). According to the official statement, they submitted a total of 221 nominations, including multiple sets.
Candidates who submitted nominations included official candidates announced by political parties, bogus candidates proposed by parties and Independents.
The largest number of candidates filed nominations for the Kalamassery constituency, 12 candidates submitted their contributions. As many as 11 candidates filed nominations for Thripunithura constituency and 10 each for Paravur and Kothamangalam.
The number of nominations received from other constituencies are: Perumbavoor – 7, Angamaly – 9, Aluva – 5, Vypeen – 9, Kochi – 8, Ernakulam – 8, Thrikkakara – 7, Kunnathunad – 8, Piravom – 9 and Muvattupuzha – 7.
The candidates who filed nominations include all sitting MLAs of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF), except for Congress Thripunithura MLA K. Babu, who chose not to participate in electoral politics.
Prominent candidates who nominated on Monday include Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan, Thrikkakara MLA Uma Thomas, Muvattupuzha MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan and his LDF contender N. Arun.
A review of nominations will take place on March 24. The deadline for downloads is March 26.
