Kerala and Tamil Nadu will be together to carry out the Nilgiri TaHr census from 24 to 27 April. The survey will take 89 census in Kerala and 176 blocks in Tamil Nadu during the four -day period.
The Minister of Forest Ak Sasendran, who announced the initiative, said the synchronized survey of the mountain kick was carried out in memory of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the National Park Eavicula.
The forest department of Kerala and Tamil Nadu began preparations for the census across the neighboring Nilgiri Tahr stations and cover the areas inside and outside protected forest zones.
According to the main guardian of the wilderness Pramod G. Kršnan, the traps of cameras and pellet samples would be deployed from selected blocks for scientific analysis, including studies of genetic variations.
In Kerala, 89 census blocks are located on 20 forest divisions that stretch from Thiruvananthapuram to Wayanad, regions known for their populations by Nilgiri Tahr. The survey will be attended by approximately 1300 members of the census, including experienced forest officials and trained volunteers of the wilderness. The collected data will be analyzed using the “limited number” method to estimate the population in each block.
PPP PP, field director Periyar Tiger Reserve, was named as a node officer for the census.
Nilgiri Tahr, a vulnerable endemic species towards the Western Ghat, is primarily found in the Highlands of South India. The Eravicula National Park organizes the largest population of this kind, which makes the region the main tourist attraction for Munnar visitors.
