Kentucky election result: US Rep. Thomas Massie loses GOP primary to Ed Gallrein in another Trump victory | Today’s news

United States Representative Thomas Massie lost to Donald Trump, former Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein in the Republican House primary in further evidence of President Donald Trump’s hold over his party. Donald Trump launched a tirade against Thomas Massie, the incumbent, ahead of the election results.

Thomas Massie, who has served in Congress since 2012, is one of the latest and most outspoken supporters. He was also one of the few Republicans who pushed for the release of the Jeffrey Epstein Files, criticized the Iran war and voted against Trump’s tax legislation.

In the evening, after the primary result was known, Massie took the stage in front of a heated crowd that cheered and chanted throughout his speech, including slogans such as “no more wars” and “America first!”.

“We’ve stirred something up. There’s a desire in this country for someone who will vote for principle over party,” Massie said.

He also criticized the unwavering loyalty to Trump in Congress. “If the legislature always votes according to which way the wind blows, then we have mob rule,” he said. But if the legislators follow the constitution, “we have a republic”.

What did Trump say about him?

Ahead of the Kentucky election results, Donald Trump took to his social media on Truth Social and said, “Tom Massie of Kentucky, the worst and most untrustworthy Republican congressman in the history of our country, is an even greater insult to our nation than Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, who suffered an unprecedented loss tonight by not even being able to run in the Republican primary.

“This is the first time this has ever happened to a sitting US Senator! That’s what you get for voting to Impeach an innocent man, especially one who allowed Cassidy to win the Senate. Very disloyal, but Tom Massie, Chief Sleazebag, is even worse because! Kentucky, get that LOSER out of politics in Tuesday’s election Jberauty and R.” of his absolutely horrible voting habits Vote for Ed Gallrein, a successful Kentucky farmer and American war hero who only ran because he thought Massie was so disloyal and disrespectful to your president, ME, he is actually a great man, Central Casting, who truly deserves to represent the fantastic people of Kentucky, a Commonwealth record I have won three times, I am proud! he said.

Donald Trump called him a “weak and pathetic RINO from the Greater Commonwealth of Kentucky” and urged him to be “kicked out” of the election.

Ed Gallrein, who won the Kentucky House primary, thanked Donald Trump for his support and leadership as he accused Massie of abandoning Trump and the party.

Also Tuesday, statewide Republicans selected U.S. Rep. Andy Barr as their nominee to replace Mitch McConnell, the longtime leader of the U.S. Senate. In a contest that represented a generational changing of the party guard, Trump-endorsed Barr defeated Daniel Cameron, a former attorney general who campaigned on his Christianity.

Massie’s job was to win over voters who generally think favorably of Trump, and the same man told them to vote for Gallrein. It wasn’t the first Republican primary that Trump had tried to influence, but Massie’s apparent defiance was a particular challenge for the president.

Some voters were fed up with Massie’s defying the party.
