The Kengeri police have registered a case against the shop owner for allegedly illegally storing LPG cylinders of various companies and selling them at higher prices to customers.
According to the police, a case has been registered at the Kengeri police station under the Essential Commodities Act and along with the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
The complaint was filed by Mahantagouda Tadlagi (40), a food inspector from Bengaluru South Taluk. In his complaint, he said that on March 14 around 3 pm, he received credible information that Mahalakshmi Enterprises based in Mylasandra Police Limits, Kengeri was illegally storing LPG cylinders belonging to various companies and creating artificial shortage to sell them to customers at higher prices.
Acting on the tip-off, Mr. Tadlagi informed fellow food inspectors Basavaraj and M. Ramesh and approached the Kengeri police station. Later, he along with PSI Eshwar Vannur and a police team raided the shop around 4.30 pm.
On inspection, the team reportedly found that the shop owner was illegally storing multiple LPG cylinders of different companies. Police suspect that the cylinders were stockpiled to create an artificial shortage and sell them to consumers at exorbitant prices.
After the raid, the police registered a case against the owner of Mahalakshmi Enterprises and further investigation is underway.
Police said appropriate legal action will be taken based on the results of the investigation.
The city police has strengthened surveillance of the accumulation and illegal sale of LPG cylinders in the city and its surroundings.
