United States President Donald Trump said Kazakhstan is among the C5 Central Asian nations to join the Abraham Accords, according to Reuters.
Kazakhstan is set to join the Abraham Accords between Israel and Arab and Muslim-majority countries in a symbolic move aimed at strengthening the initiative that was a hallmark of US President Donald Trump’s first administration, PTI reported.
The action, announced on Thursday, is largely symbolic because Kazakhstan has had diplomatic relations with Israel since 1992 and is geographically much further from Israel than the other countries of the Abraham Accords – Bahrain, Morocco, Sudan and the United Arab Emirates.
These countries agreed to normalize relations with Israel as a result of acceding to the agreements, which Kazakhstan did shortly after gaining independence from the breakup of the Soviet Union.
