Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) president K. Kavitha has accused those at the helm in the Congress dispensation of playing politics over the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) instead of addressing the irrigation needs of farmers.
Speaking to the media after visiting a field of withered crops in Maqdumpur village near Karimnagar on Monday (Oct 19, 2026), she attributed the damage to lack of water for irrigation.
“Whether the Kaleshwaram project failed or passed, is it not the government’s responsibility to help farmers? Building a small cofferdam across the Pranahita river could stabilize irrigation in 35 to 40 million acres,” she said.
Urging Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to take immediate steps to protect farmers’ interests, she alleged that no government official had visited the village to assess the crop damage.
Ms. Kavitha demanded 24-hour power supply for agriculture, lifting of water for irrigation and nationwide assessment of crop damage.
