According to the study of the Center for the Development of Water Resources and the Control of the Kattakada constituency, he witnessed 46.75%of the carbon emissions between 2019 and 2024.
The second carbon audit of the constituency shows that the annual emissions in the region have fallen from 2.67,292.01 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (TCO₂E) per year to 1.42 318.71 TCO₂e for 2020-2024.
However, the Kattacada of the election district still has to reduce 81.7 % of excess carbon from the atmosphere to achieve carbon neutrality or reduce at least 31.7 % more to alleviate the adverse effects of carbon footprint.
The report attributes a decline in emissions to consistent efforts in receiving renewable energy, improvement of waste management and better land use procedures.
Carbon sequestration through natural sinks represented 1 12,340.79 TCO₂e (16.1%), while a reduction in emissions of human activities contributed 15,250,19 TCO (2.2%). This trend is primarily controlled by a solar project Soura, Malinya Muktam Kattakada for waste management and initiative for protection of jalasamrudhi water introduced in the region.
The study was conducted as part of the “carbon neutral Kattacada” project, which assumes a reduction in carbon emissions caused by man through the lifestyle of people and sustainable development in the region. The audit covered six Grama Panchayats in the election district, see. Kattakada, Malayinkeezhu, Mararanalloor, Pallichal, Villappil and Vilavorkal.
Malikezhu Emergency situation The highest emitter (1.95 277.24 TCO₂ or 34, 3%), followed by Vlappil (1.11 065.49 TCO₂e or 19.5%) and Kattakada (1 02 402.98 TCO2E or 17.9%). However, all six Panchays showed an improvement in the cumulative carbon sequestration led by maranaloor, followed by Kattakada and Malayinkeezh.
The energy sector remains the largest emitor, while transport emissions have increased in particular, reflecting the growing reliance on mobility based on fossil fuels. The positive thing is that agriculture and waste industries have seen a significant decline in emissions.
Measures
The report proposes measures to expand the Soura solar project to cover multiple households and institutions and strengthen Malinya Mukham Kattakada to ensure almost zero from waste.
He also faces various immediate priorities, including only buses with zero emissions, taxis and municipal vehicles; Expanding the electric vehicle charging infrastructure (EV) across all Panchayats; And starting campaigns to promote electronic bikes, shared mobility and non -motorized transport through mobile applications and public schemes.
For long -term study measures, the study requires the use of alternative fuels, such as biofuels and hydrogen, decarbonization of the electricity network by integrating more renewable sources and the use of the capacity of municipal energy and investment in public transport infrastructure.
