Today, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will start the first Vande Bharat Express train to Kashmir from Jammu after the completion of 272 km of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway connection.
Modi announces train services from the Railway Station Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) in Katra Jammu to Srinagar, Kashmir. On this occasion, Modi will also mark another train from Srinagar to Katra.
Between Banihal and Baramulla, north of Srinagar in the Kashmir Valley, and between Jammu, Udhampur and Catra in the Jammu area.
This will be the first visit to Prime Minister Modi in Jammu and Kashmir after the “Sindoor Operation” – Indian accurate strikes in terrorist camps in Pakistan launched on May 7 in response to the terrorist attack of Pahalgam, killed by 26 people, mostly tourists.
Today’s event will be seen by the first trains that move between the Kashmir valley and the rest of the country. The first passenger train leaves Delhi and reaches Srinagar through the pilgrimage city of Katra.
Vande bharat specific to climate
The Kashmir version of the Vande Bharat Express trains is designed to handle the harsh winter conditions of the Himalayas. Vande Bharat Express, which is put into operation on the Jammu-Srinagar route, is specially created to withstand serious winter conditions in the Himalayan region.
The train maintains effective functionality at the temperatures of minus 20 degrees Celsius. Incorporation of heated windshields, sophisticated heating mechanisms and thermally insulated toilet will ensure year -round operations
The train is equipped with adaptations specific to the climate to provide advanced heating systems at temperatures below zero, the front sight of the driver built -in heating elements for defrosting and ensuring clear visibility during harsh winters.
Katra to Srinagar in 3 hours?
With Friday, Kashmir will have a year -round access to the railway to the rest of India.
Vande Bharat Train, which is moving on the Chenab bridge, will take about 3 hours to travel between Katra and Srinagar, reducing the current travel time by 2-3 hours.
Two new Vande Bharat Express trains to Kashmir will start regular operations on June 7, 2025, the day after the inauguration.
Initially, the services will run from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Srinagar. The Jammu Tawi railway station is currently rebuilt. Upon completion, Vande Bharat Express will expand to Jammu from Srinagar, officials said
With the inauguration of Vande Bharat, Kashmir gets access to the rest of India throughout the year.
