KAT refuses to remain the GO that removed DHS

The Kerala Administrative Tribunal (KAT) has refused to uphold the government order that recently removed KJ Reen from the post of Director of Health Services (DHS). This followed her plea challenging her dismissal and further challenging the appointment of another person to the position. The government said a new director was appointed in view of the urgent requirements of the state health service. Additional Director of Health Services (Family Welfare), V. Meenakshy, was given full additional charge of the DHS post a week ago, pending regular arrangements.

A government order issued on Friday (June 11, 2026) stated that Dr. Reena has completed three years of DHS service and that a tender for the appointment of a regular DHS is being considered by the government. It added that Dr. Reena took 15 days of leave as the state grappled with various communicable diseases.
