Former TTD chairman and YSR Congress district president Bhumana Karunakar Reddy performed ‘Srinivasa Prasada Ninda Parihara Homam’ at his office premises here on Friday, seeking redress for the embarrassment allegedly caused by Lord Srinivasa’s laddu prasadam.
Mr Karunakar Reddy had earlier announced that he would perform the ritual after a special investigation team formed under the CBI to probe the ghee adulteration case reportedly found no evidence of animal fat in the prasadam, contrary to Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s claim.
Later, he called the Prime Minister’s casual assertion to the media that animal fat was used in the preparation of the sacred sacrifice under the previous regime as malicious.
“One thoughtless statement created ripples across the world and caused pain in the hearts of millions of staunch devotees of Lord Venkateswara. This was followed by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s temple steps cleaning program which symbolized repentance. How far can someone go to use Tirumala as a platform for political gain,” he asked.
Mr. Karunakar Reddy further noted that the ghee supplier in question had been supplying large quantities since 2013, even during the tenure of the TDP from 2014 to 2019, and questioned why no action was taken against the allegedly tainted supplier at that time.
Meanwhile, YSRCP leaders alleged that some youth members of the NDA party had gathered near the homam venue in an apparent attempt to disrupt the ritual. However, the party cadre intervened and prevented any disruption.
