Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for austerity measures, Karnataka’s Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok announced on May 13 that he and his family would observe austerity measures.
It is learned that Mr. Ashok has decided to limit the use of escort vehicles and also travel by Namma Metro whenever he travels to any area that is on the metro route.
“I am limiting the use of escort vehicles. My whole family will also practice austerity measures. Since there is no sign that the ongoing war (in West Asia) will end, it is advisable to take precautionary measures,” he said.
He urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to order government officials to travel by bus and implement austerity measures.
“In times of war, Congress leaders in Karnataka should not indulge in petty politics of austerity and act at the behest of their leader Rahul Gandhi,” he said.
