In what agitated trade unions in Karnataka, the state government proposed to bring a change to the Karnataka Shop and Commercial Busineshshipment Act from 1961 to increase everyday working hours to 10 from the current nine hours, except that it allowed more overtime.
The proposed change, orbiting the Ministry of Labor between the parties to provoke their reaction, allows working hours to increase to 10 daily and 48 week. The proposal limits the total number of hours, including overtime, to 12 hours a day – from the current 10 hours a day.
