The number of medical seats in Karnataka in this academic year decreased by 201 compared to last year. This is due to not renging 200 medical seats from the National Medical Commission (NMC) in Jawaharal Nezru Medical College (JNMC) of Kle Society, Belagavi and a reduction in one chair in Chitradurga Medical College.
Last year, 12,395 medical seats were available at 71 medical faculties in the state. This year, however, only 12 194 medical seats are available 70 medical faculties.
Various quotas
This includes 572 seats in the seats of all Indian quotas (AIQ), 2 224 in the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) as a quota, 5 275 in government quota, 2,819 in private quota and 876 in NRI quota.
Of these, 9,263 medical seats will be assigned through the Ugneet-2025 consulting from Karnataka Examing Authority (Kea). Last year, 9,282 seats were assigned via Kea.
The NMC recently recorded a higher doctor who worked as an evaluator who allegedly received a 10 MAKH bribe by the exchange of a positive report on the JNMC evaluation and the central investigative office (CBI) arrested the evaluator.
After this incident, the NMC decided not to renew the current number of JNMC seats in graduation and postgraduate courses for 2025-26. It also canceled seat improvements and start new courses in UG and PG in JNMC.
3 315 dental seats
This year, 3,315 dental seats are available at 44 dental universities throughout the state. Of these, 668 in AIQ, 911 in government quota, 1 2110 in a private quota and 377 in NRI quota, including categories. All these seats will be assigned to Kea.
