Karnataka Transport Department registers 1,508 cases during Gauri-Ganesh festival checks

The Karnataka Transport Department has booked 1,508 cases and collected over Rs 19.44 lakh in taxes and fines during a five-day special enforcement drive in Bengaluru urban and rural divisions to curb violations by private vehicle operators during the Gauri-Ganesh festival.

The inspection drive took place from September 11 to 15, according to the instructions of the Commissioner for Transport and Road Safety. The teams have been instructed to check complaints of excessive fares, congestion, permit violations and illegal carriage of passengers and goods.

In Bengaluru Urban, officials checked 2,260 vehicles and registered 811 cases. 5 vehicles were impounded and 117 permit violations were found. The division collected ₹ 6.46 lakh in taxes and ₹ 3.97 lakh in fines for a total of ₹ 10.44 lakh.

In Bengaluru Rural, 1,400 vehicles were checked and 697 cases were registered. Officials detected 125 permit violations and collected ₹6.39 crore in taxes and ₹2.60 crore in fines of ₹9 crore.

Specifically, the department has directed enforcement teams to crack down on vehicles charging fares above permitted rates, carrying passengers beyond permitted capacity and carrying goods or explosives in violation of regulations.
