The Karnataka Department has collected over 82.25 ₹ Lakh in fines from Auto-Rikša drivers during special recovery and rules violation.
The procedure, between April and July 2025, came after the commuters filed a number of complaints about drivers who fascinate passengers, refused rides and cause harassment.
According to official data, officials of the Ministry of Transport checked 16 383 Auto-Rikes during the four-month period. Of these, 3,349 cases were reserved against drivers who either gathered illegal tariffs, refused to go to certain destinations, or worked without valid permits. The fines were imposed a total of 82.25 950 GBP.
The question of excessive charging has reportedly deteriorated since the state government forbade bike taxis four months ago, leading to an increase in demand for auto-ricks. The commuters said that many drivers used the situation by quoting inflated tariffs or the required excessive payments over the meter. Minister of Transport Ramaling Reddy in June, who acted for these complaints, ordered transport Commissioners to cancel the permission of repeated perpetrators and to ensure stricter monitoring, including drivers connected to aggregate platforms.
Ongoing drive
The head of the transport department told the Hindes that the drive was going. “We focus on cars that override, reject a layer, operate without valid permits or violate transport and transport regulations. Repeated perpetrators will face serious consequences, including suspension of licenses,” the clerk said.
The Ministry urged the public to actively report incidents of overcharging or rejection. “There are specialized police lines for passengers to file complaints and the authorities assured quick steps against the violators,” he added.
They need strict recovery
Regular commuting, however, claims that strict recovery may not be as simple as it sounds, given that the problem has persisted for years. “The last time was the time to call the car on the road and pay for the meter? The sacredness of the meter has been lost long ago. We all got used to shelling much more than what it should stand, whether it is a normal car or applications based on applications,” said Prabha Kumari.
It questioned the practicality of the intervention and added: “How many complaints can the authorities realistically manage in the city?
