The Karnataka government on Thursday decided to set up a cabinet sub-committee to study and recommend the implementation of the State Education Policy (SEP) to the government.
The Cabinet on Thursday discussed in detail the recommendations of the Sukhdeo Thorat-led State Education Policy Commission.
Prof. Thorat also made a presentation to the cabinet ministers on Thursday after which it was decided to mandate the chief minister to set up a cabinet sub-committee.
Asked whether the sub-committee’s recommendations would be available before the start of the academic year, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil said, “It may take some time. It has eight chapters and covers human resources, financial impact, current academic activities and curriculum, among others.”
Amendment to the Transport Act
The Cabinet also approved the Karnataka Motor Transport and Other Allied Workers Social Security and Welfare (Amendment) Bill, 2026 to shift the Karnataka Motor Transport and Other Allied Workers Social Security and Welfare from the Ministry of Labor to the Ministry of Transport.
Between April 2025 and December 2025, the Transport Department collected a total of ₹92.25 crore through a 3% cess and a levy of ₹500 each on two-wheelers and ₹1,000 each on four-wheelers.
Zoo experience
Also approved was the proposed Immersive Wildlife Room and Digital Zoo Guide at Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens and Bannerghatta Biological Park at a cost of ₹ 44.62 crore and ₹ 35.22 crore respectively to provide a technology-enabled visitor engagement system. The cabinet also cleared an aquarium to be set up at Bannerghatta at a cost of ₹ 144.40 crore.
Other decisions included the removal of 2% reservation for sportspersons by introducing an amendment to the Karnataka Civil Services (General) Recruitment Rules.
