The Karnataka and Gail (India) Limited, the public sector’s enterprise in the natural gas sector, signed a memorandum of understanding (MY) on Friday in order to set up 1 GW of renewable energy (RE) in a state with an estimated expenditure of 5,000 GBP.
MB Patil, Minister for the Development of Large and Middle Industry and Infrastructure, said: “Gail can start projects by acquiring land from farmers for rent or facilitate land allocation.
He also stated that the memorandum would allow Gail to explore and develop a diversified portfolio of renewable energy, including solar, roof solar, floating solar energy, wind energy and commissioned storage solutions. “Gail also wants to acquire suitable land in solar parks in Karnataka to speed up the project implementation within its reserved capital expenditure plan,” the Minister added.
KJ George, the Minister of Energy, noted that this partnership will strengthen the position of Karnataka as a blanking of green energy while generating employment and increasing the development of infrastructure. George, who emphasized the solar potential of the state, said the Pavagada Solar Park has already produced 2,050 MW of energy per year and local farmers were ready to provide another 10,000 acres of land for a similar project.
My was signed in the presence of Mr. Patil and Mr. George and TD Rajegowd, chairman of Karnataka Renewable Energy Development LTD (credits).
