Already covering 98.03% of its population, Mandya leads Karnataka in the ongoing social and educational survey, said Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of the district.
In his statement on Tuesday, Mr. Kumar said that the exercise has so far covered 18,29,582 people out of a projected population of 18,66,350 in Mandya. A total of 5.10 lakh families were surveyed in the district during the exercise, which began on September 22, the statement said.
The survey is part of a comprehensive collection of data on social, educational and economic conditions of all communities and castes across Karnataka as part of a nationwide exercise.
“It is a matter of great pride that Mandya secured the first position in the state for the successful completion of this large-scale survey,” Mr. Kumar said in a statement while appreciating the efforts of a large number of individuals who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the exercise.
“The active participation and involvement of officials from various departments at the district and taluk levels as well as the entire teaching community played a key role in the successful completion of the survey,” the statement said.
Mr. Kumar also sought to appreciate the positive response and cooperation of the people of Mandya for ensuring successful data collection of the survey.
Apart from enumerators, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation staff, gram panchayat staff and anganwadi workers who helped identify families, Mr Kumar also thanked tahsildars, executive officers, block education officers, municipal commissioners and child development project leaders.
